The author of the heart-wrenching monument at the intersection of the Garden Ring and Sakharov Boulevard gave an interview to the historical magazine Rodina when the work was not yet completed...

- The work on the monument is, dare I say it, a mission for me. There was nothing more significant in my life.
- There will be rare gaps in the wall so that everyone can pass through it and feel that they are in the place of the victim. A step left or right is like death. The feeling of the sword of Damocles hanging over the crown of your head should not go away.
- The monument is a reminder: everything can come back. at any moment
- The good thing about the place is that it is not a specially designated area like Poklunaya Gora, where you can put anything and as much as you want. The "Wall of Sorrow" will be in the center of the city: near the Three Stations Square, the Garden Ring passes by it. There are offices and residential buildings around, it's a normal habitat. I even love that the dresser behind the wall looks so oppressive. It convexly expresses any heavy system, and I will try to use it in composition.
- The monument to Dzerzhinsky should not have been removed from Lubyanka. Take it off the stand and leave it nearby. Fix the vanquished well. There will be more symbolism in it. The result will be a turn of one hundred and eighty degrees! You see, monumental art has a strong philosophy inherent in it.
- Nothing goes without a trace. We must remember not only the millions of victims of Stalin's repression, but also those who were not born as a result. It is impossible to calculate how many births were irreversibly interrupted, and these were far from the worst families in Russia. Losses can never be made up. Open spaces...
- The terrible dark wall as a symbol. If it starts moving towards us, it will crush everyone, no one will be spared.
