Follow Safa| Gaza Municipality: We appeal to international and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene in order to provide oils, spare parts and maintenance supplies needed to operate generators, mechanisms and pumps in essential service facilities and to ensure their continued operation in light of the acute shortage and the cessation of several pumps and generators. The severity of the crisis increases with the onset of winter and the fall of rain, since the lack of oils and spare parts directly affects the work of the water and sewage pumps and the generators of the service facilities and limits the municipality's ability to provide its basic services and respond to emergencies. A malfunction of this equipment leads to the overflow of wastewater, the accumulation of rainwater and the flooding of streets, residential areas and shelter camps, which portends serious health, environmental and humanitarian consequences and multiplies the suffering of civilians and displaced persons. Water and sanitation facilities rely on electric generators to operate wells, pumping stations, tanks and treatment and drainage plants. Continuing to operate the equipment for long hours without routine maintenance and changing oils exposes it to serious mechanical failures that may lead to its cessation of operation. We call on the international and humanitarian agencies to take immediate action to facilitate the entry of oils, spare parts and maintenance materials in an urgent and sustainable manner, to ensure the continued operation of pumps and generators and to strengthen the municipality's ability to deal with depressions in the weather and to protect shelter camps, streets and the lives of citizens.
