Follow Safa| The Ministry of Social Development in Gaza: We call for international intervention to protect Palestinian women and call for combined efforts to empower breadwinners and widows. On the occasion of National Palestinian Women's Day, which falls on October 26, we confirm that this event is a national station for renewing the firm commitment to women's rights and emphasizing their pioneering role in protecting the social fabric and dealing with conditions of war, displacement and poverty. The great struggle and the humanitarian role played by Palestinian women has a very difficult and complex humanitarian reality as a result of the ongoing aggression of the Israeli occupation and the ongoing blockade, resulting in direct harm to Palestinian women, forced displacement, loss of security and an unprecedented psychological, social and economic situation that imposes double pressures on the most vulnerable women, which imposes their most vulnerable pressures. Families, survivors of violence and abandoned women facing living conditions without support. In this context, the official statistics released by the Ministry and the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics for 2026 revealed the extent of the unusual burden imposed on women in the Gaza Strip, where the number of female-headed families is estimated at 123,588 families as a result of the martyrdom of the breadwinner and the destruction of property. Official published reports indicate that 28,580 women have lost their husbands since October 7, 2023, and found themselves alone facing the support burdens and providing shelter, food and water in a severe displacement environment. In terms of protection, 1,625 women received dedicated support and protection services (psychological, social and legal interventions), in addition to receiving direct services through protection and treatment services (including non-supportive, abandoned and divorced women), and 634 cases were handled through telephone lines designed for consultation, in addition to 420 interventional follow-up cases after intervention. Based on the above, we confirm the following: We call on the international community and the UN and human rights institutions to exert immediate pressure to stop the aggression of the Israeli occupation, end the blockade, hold it accountable for its crimes against Palestinian women, and provide urgent international protection to them and their families in accordance with international treaties and conventions.
