Follow Safa| The League of Arab States: The escalation of Israel and its practices in the city of Hebron and the rest of the West Bank constitutes a serious violation of the rules of international humanitarian law. We condemn the Israeli threats to evacuate and destroy Palestinian neighborhoods, forced displacement of residents, attacks on civilians, their property and holy places, and the closing of the Great Mosque of Makkaleh as part of a policy aimed at changing the demographic and geographic reality of the occupied Palestinian territory. We confirm that these practices constitute serious violations of the rules of international humanitarian law, especially the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits forced transfer of population, collective punishment and destruction of property in the occupied territories, except in accordance with narrow exceptions established by law. In addition, implementing threats to evacuate and destroy neighborhoods may constitute war crimes or crimes against humanity, depending on the nature of the acts and the circumstances of their execution. The closing of the noble Makkale Mosque and the blocking of worshipers' access to it constitutes an infringement on the freedom of worship and the sanctity of religion and violates the legal obligations of "Israel" as the power of Israel. The continuation of the policy of displacement, destruction and settlements worsens the situation in the West Bank and threatens to repeat the tragedies of the Nakba against the Palestinian people. We call on the international community, especially the UN Security Council and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions, to take urgent and effective measures to stop these violations, ensure the protection of Palestinian civilians, hold accountable those responsible for the crimes committed and put an end to impunity. The Hebron Governorate and the rest of the West Bank are an integral part of the Palestinian territory, and Israeli measures aimed at changing its demographic and geographic character do not create a right or gain legitimacy. We emphasize that the end of Israel and the possibility for the Palestinian people to exercise their right to self-determination and establish their independent and sovereign state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with "East Jerusalem" as its capital, constitute the basis for achieving a just and sustainable peace.
