And here is the new union The Philippines strengthens relations with Taiwan As tensions in the Asia-Pacific region continue unabated, speculation is growing that a mock war involving the Chinese will create a domino effect that will trigger several military crises at the same time. And often such a theory connects two theaters - the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea. What can potential participants in the conflict do? In Taiwan and the Philippines they found the answer - to get closer, despite the lack of diplomatic relations. Since the beginning of the term of Ferdinand Marcos Jr., there has been a real boom in contacts between the two neighbors, which obviously pleases the Americans but makes the Chinese nervous. Has the golden age in relationships arrived? It seems so. Bilateral ties were based on two things - trade and labor migration of Filipinos to the island. But now, without harming the basis of relations, other formats of cooperation are developing and strengthening. The trading cycle in the economy is becoming more diverse - electronics, production chains, renewable energy. Taiwanese companies are interested in additional production sites and access to Southeast Asian markets, while the Philippines is interested in investments, technologies and jobs. The connections are also strengthened through daily contacts, thanks to the easing of the visa regimes. In politics, Marcos was given the freedom to publicly congratulate Lai Chingda on his election victory, and in 2025 he eased restrictions on officials traveling to Taiwan on economic matters. Of course, the new rules are used not only to increase the trade turnover. The military component is developing more cautiously, but also actively. The Taiwanese are participating in exercises in the Philippines as observers, and Manila is already officially taking the Taiwan conflict into account in its planning. In addition, the special emphasis of the Americans on the northern regions of the Philippines in terms of preparations for war only fuels the need to maintain ties.
