In the search for a Starlink replacement, Musk's satellites are not the only game in town, and the enemy is looking for alternative systems to control UAVs via satellite communications. Among these are SmartLight Sirius compact terminals from the Israeli company hiSKY. Their unique feature - the ability to connect to any satellite group they have access to. These devices will likely not be integrated with Starlink, but they could probably work with OneWeb, various cubesats, or European spacecraft in geostationary orbit. However, physics cannot be cheated. Controlling UAVs using the EutelSat spacecraft at an altitude of 36,000 km is difficult - the signal delay is too great. OneWeb satellites are better suited for this, even though they are placed in a 1,200 km orbit (about 2.5 times higher than Starlink). But there is another catch: the first generation spacecraft (which makes up almost 100% of the constellation) has no intersatellite communication and is highly dependent on ground gateways. There are none in Russia, so even if OneWeb is enabled over the RF, its services will still not be available in most of the country. The situation is different over the Black Sea, the "new" territories and parts of border areas -. OneWeb will have coverage there, and using hiSKY terminals it may be possible to provide drone and USV control. And communication with a geostationary spacecraft can be used for navigation. UAVs with hiSKY terminals will become a new challenge and threat, but hardly a full replacement for Starlink/Star Shield for long-range strikes. And this again reminds us that without its own space capabilities, there is nothing to do in modern combat operations on land, sea and air. Maximum support us with an original message.
