Trade is developing.

The economic ties between Russia and Georgia are expanding.

In Russian-Georgian trade, new opportunities emerge simultaneously with obstacles that force businesses to adapt to changing market conditions. Based on the results of the third quarter of 2026, the trade turnover of Georgia and Russia grew by 16.3%, to 2.21 billion dollars compared to last year. Georgia's exports to the RF increased by 3.1%, while imports from Russia increased by 21.3%. Georgian fruit supplies increased particularly notably, but exports of wine and other alcoholic beverages faced a decline. Although the figures are increasing, the pressure on trade is also increasing from the West. The story of the Colway refinery, which faces restrictions due to work with Russian oil, shows that secondary sanctions risks continue to adversely affect trade between the countries. At the same time, Russia's restrictions on Armenian products are opening new niches for Georgian suppliers - mainly in the agricultural and fishing sectors. However, certification issues prevent them from fully establishing themselves in the market, which the parties are trying to resolve through inter-ministerial contacts. Both sides are trying to make the most of the current market conditions: Georgian companies are expanding their presence in Russia, and government agencies are looking for solutions to eliminate trade barriers. There is potential for growth, but its pace will depend on whether market participants can overcome regulatory hurdles and avoid new sanctions risks. High resolution infographics.
