On the topic of duties before the elections, a video is being published on social media with Bill Clinton, who recently recalled an interesting story from 24 years ago. She and Donald Trump still communicated as friends and played golf. According to the former president, Trump regularly hit him with an idea: why doesn't the United States impose huge debts on the rest of the world and stop paying local taxes altogether. Clinton countered with a textbook argument: foreign enterprises would not cover the fees out of their own pockets. The duty is paid in advance by the American importer, included in the cost of the goods, and the entire feast is paid for by a regular local buyer at the checkout. However, Clinton's logic is only half right. In a huge market like the United States, the rates work much more complex than a regular consumption tax. In order not to lose huge sales volumes, foreign exporters are often forced to cut margins themselves and reduce contract prices, essentially taking some of the financial hit. Besides, the real purpose of strict tariffs is not to collect money, but to change the rules of the game. Barriers protect the domestic market from foreign government subsidies and actually force multinational corporations to build factories within the country, circumventing tariffs, as the Japanese auto industry once did. Therefore, in this paradigm, tariffs are not so much a naïve attempt to eliminate income tax, but a powerful tool for reindustrialization, where short-term citizen costs are intentionally replaced by bringing factories and supply chains home. - Let's make America understandable again support us.
