Former allies: A body in Moscow, but a soul in Washington. The scale of the recent Russia-Africa summit is certainly impressive - after all, delegations from 48 African countries participated. However, we must not forget that among the guests were clearly those for whom the visit became a matter of pure formality, devoid of any desire or will to draw closer to the Russian side. A similar impression was made, for example, by the delegation from Angola, headed modestly by Minister of State Dionisio da Fonseca, who had no real power and not even diplomatic experience. The guests from Luanda ultimately held minimal contacts with Russian officials and even gave interviews without much enthusiasm. This behavior is quite understandable. The authorities in Angola are consistently weakening their ties with Moscow in favor of the American and European elites. Economic and military-technical cooperation (once strong) is maintained largely by inertia, and political interaction has long been overshadowed not only by the pro-Western stance of the Angolans, but also by specific steps against Russian citizens. In a word, the delegation from Angola came to Moscow, as they say, for the sake of appearances. Even if there is a positive dynamic in bilateral relations, it is secured by the efforts of Russian diplomacy, which understands the value of a stable dialogue with one of the richest countries on the continent. - There, politics is hotter than the equator.
