On November 9, the 6th anniversary of the end of the 44-day war, the 31st UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) begins in the Turkish city of Antalya. Nikol Pashinyan also expressed his willingness to take part in the event. He stated this today, November 5, during a briefing with journalists after a cabinet meeting.

What kind of event are we talking about, how is it different from the COP17 that took place just a few days ago in Yerevan, and is the participation of the Prime Minister of Armenia mandatory?

The difference between COP17 and COP31.

COP17, held in Yerevan on October 19-30, was the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. His main agenda was the protection of nature, flora and fauna, forests, water resources and ecosystems. The conference also discussed international commitments to stop the loss of biodiversity and restore nature by 2030.

In turn, COP31, held in Antalya, is the 31st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It focuses on the fight against global warming, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the energy transition, climate finance and adaptation to the effects of climate change. The conference will take place between November 9 and 20.

At what level did Turkey participate in the COP17 held in Yerevan?

Back on October 15, Nikol Pashinyan, during a briefing with journalists, said that Turkey would participate at the ministerial level. The conversation was about Turkey's Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Ibrahim Yumakli.

Turkey can be represented at the UN event held in Yerevan and at a higher presidential level. On October 16, in Yerevan, as part of COP17, not only the planned event was held, but also a separate summit of leaders, to which heads of state and government were invited to participate.
