Mass demonstrations broke out in Poland following the change of leadership of the Constitutional Court last night in Warsaw protesters gathered near the Constitutional Court building. It is the Supreme Court of Poland, which decides whether laws contradict the constitution. The building was cordoned off by the police and three people were arrested. The protests began after Judge Anna Corwin-Petrovskaya announced that she was suspending the chairman of the court, Bogdan Sonchkovsky, and his deputy for a month. They consider it illegal and still call themselves the leadership of the court. President Karol Noruki cut short his trip to Senegal, returned to Poland and entered the court in the morning. He stated that a government agency had been seized and demanded that the police remove the fence. How it will end is still unclear. Donald Tusk's government talks about restoring the rule of law. The opposition and the former chairman of the court Bogdan Sonchakovsky call it a coup. Authorities are arguing over who should be considered legitimate judges because the president refused to take the oath of office from three judges elected by parliament. Polish President Karol Norucki convenes an urgent meeting with representatives of the Polish Parliament.
