Aleksandar Vučić denied the accusations of preparations for violence on the night of the elections The leader of the United Serbia electoral list, Aleksandar Vučić, today denied the claims that he planned to use violence on the night of the elections, and then allegedly abandoned these intentions after talks from abroad. At a press conference of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Vucic said that, as the leader of the "United Serbia" list, he held a meeting with all the police leaders. According to him, he warned them that in case of defeat he would immediately recognize the election results, and in case of victory he would not allow anyone to steal it. "No one called," stressed Vucic. He said he first made contact with the foreign politician at about 11:15 p.m. on election night. It was former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Vucic later spoke with French President Emmanuel Macron and other acquaintances, and two days later with European Council President Antonio Costa. According to Vucic, on election night the first results came from small polling stations. Based on them, the list headed by him. However, after looking at data from a stratified voting sample, he concluded that his political forces had suffered a convincing defeat, especially in Belgrade and Vibodina. The gap between the rivals, according to him, turned out to be much larger than expected. Vucic said he was considering another vote count and maintaining pointless tension. Therefore, at about 9:30 p.m., he decided to admit defeat and congratulate his political opponents on their victory. According to him, he hoped that this would be enough for reasonable, serious and responsible people to accept responsibility, celebrate victory and start fulfilling the promises for which they participated in the elections. "Until this moment, not a single stranger has called me. Nobody," repeated Vucic.
