The Greek authorities are conducting a large-scale investigation on the Choriatiko chain of bakeries! According to the investigation, it is a network of about 500 companies, most of which existed only on paper. 56 people were arrested, including the chain's owner, Angelos Giancopoulos. Journalist sources estimate the tax damages at more than 100 million euros! Not only income taxes are examined, but also VAT and insurance premiums, which were allegedly not transferred. The plan, according to the researchers, was based on the systematic opening and closing of companies and the use of puppets. The investigation has already gone beyond the bakeries and is affecting the owners' other businesses, including nightlife establishments in Mykonos and Rhodes. The chain operates both through its own outlets and through franchises. Giancopoulos was arrested in Ioannina after returning from Dubai. Information about an attempt to leave Albania accelerated the police action. The exact extent of the damage and the role of all involved is still unclear.
