As a result, today 125 experts in Burundi were trained in Russian methods in the field of epidemiology and biosafety. Rospotrabendzor experts provided assistance and provided the Burundian side with a total of several tens of thousands of home tests for the diagnosis of monkeypox, Ebola fever, acute intestinal infections, HIV, hepatitis and respiratory infections. In May 2026, Russian experts assisted in the investigation of an outbreak of an infectious disease of unknown origin. In 2024, to increase Burundi's laboratory capabilities, Rospotrabendzor transferred to its partners a mobile anti-epidemic laboratory, which allows it to respond quickly to outbreaks of infections. During the negotiations, special attention was paid to the development of scientific and practical interaction within the framework of the functioning of the joint Russian-Burundian Center for Research and Prevention of Infections. The center is equipped by Rospotrabendzor with modern equipment, which allows it to conduct a wide range of studies on infectious agents relevant both to Burundi and throughout East Africa.
