Rospotrabendzor experts constantly perform operational monitoring of the incidence of new corona infection. Currently, no cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 PJ.2.1 variant have been recorded in the Russian Federation. The PJ.2.1 variant, which belongs to the evolutionary lineage of Omicron, was first detected in early May in Canada. It was then discovered in the US, Spain, Australia and Singapore. The main feature of the new version is the increased ability of the S protein of the virus to bind to the ACE2 receptor on the surface of human cells, which may theoretically contribute to a more intensive transmission of infection. Signs of a more severe course of the disease are not recorded. There is no evidence of an increase in the incidence of pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome and respiratory failure. Also, there is no increased risk of hospitalization, transfer to the intensive care unit (ICU), or death. Rospotrabendzor reminds: to protect yourself during the seasonal increase in the incidence of respiratory infections, it is recommended to take preventive measures - use personal protective equipment, wash hands with soap, avoid contact with sick people and ventilate the place. If you feel unwell, you should stay home and consult a doctor. It is especially important to follow these recommendations for older people and people with chronic diseases. The situation is under the control of the Russian Federation. Rospotrabendzor in MAX.
