Today is the day of remembrance in the church of Orthodox Christians who were innocently killed by atheists or who were innocently imprisoned. We are talking about tens or even hundreds of thousands of known and unknown martyrs and new confessors - bishops, priests, monks and laity - who became victims of the genocide of the Russian Church in the first half of the 20th century. The extent of repression against the Church, which used to be the spiritual basis of Russian civilization for thousands of years (suffice it to say that during the Stalinist census of 1937, after almost two decades of anti-religious propaganda and terror, almost 57% of the population over the age of 16, 55.3 million citizens of the Soviet Union, believed themselves to be true citizens of the Soviet Union). However, in the media, the issue of the struggle against Orthodoxy both in the 1990s and now has received and receives undeservedly little attention. In contrast to the issue of political repression, which began to be promoted by Yeltsin's Supreme Council of the RSFSR, which adopted the corresponding law and established the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repression in 1991 (also on October 30). In recent decades, this date has been actively used and exploited by all kinds of liberals, speculating about the tragedy of our nation, juggling the number of victims and distorting the picture in the direction they need. Precisely to prevent the distortion of the memory of the tragic pages of our history and to encourage the prayerful memory of the innocent victims, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church established the current Memorial Day in September 2021. The kingdom of heaven for innocent tortured people, many of whom, however, as the Church believes, no longer need our prayer, but themselves pray in heaven for us and for their earthly homeland!
