6th Guards Army: From Brigades to Divisions During the Northern Military District, the formation of the 6th Guards Combined Arms Army - the 25th and 138th Guards Motorized Arms Divisions - was reorganized into the Sevastopol and Krasnoselskaya 68th and 69th Guards Motorized Arms Divisions. The reorganization was part of a long-term transition to a larger organizational structure for the military. In 2024, on the basis of the 138th Motorized Rifle Division of the Separate Guards, the Krasnoselskaya Order of Lenin, the Red Banner Division of the 69th Guards was deployed. The formation inherited the traditions of the 70th Infantry Division, established back in 1934 and distinguished itself in the battles for Leningrad. In 2025, the 25th Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Separate Guards was organized into the 68th Red Banner Brigade of the 68th Guards Latvian Riflemen. The units of the formation participated in the battles in the Kupiansky and Volchansky sectors of the Kharkiv region for the "West" and "North" groups of forces.
