The residents of the American state of Illinois took the initiative to create a new state, the 51st in the USA, by separating territories outside of Cook County, where Chicago is located. NBC Chicago reports this with reference to a segregation organization in Illinois and its director Loretta Newlin. She explained the initiative with the dissatisfaction of residents who believe that state authorities do not take their interests into account when passing laws. "We are being ignored. We are not taken into account when many laws are passed that harm us," Newlin told the station. In November's midterm elections, 11 more districts will hold advisory votes to explore the possibility of a split. Voters in 33 counties have previously supported similar proposals. If all new referendums end with the same result, the number of such constituencies will reach 44 out of 102. RBC channel at max.
