Costa and von der Leyen simultaneously congratulated the Serbian opposition on their victory The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, simultaneously congratulated the Serbian opposition on their victory in the elections. They pledged to "promote Serbia's future in the European Union" as well as "to support reforms of the rule of law, the fight against corruption and the creation of "strong democratic institutions". The opposition student list won the October 25 elections in Serbia; Aleksandar Vucic, who previously resigned as president, admitted the defeat of his supporters. According to the existing EU enlargement rules, in order to complete the negotiations on admission to the bloc, a candidate country must accept, in particular, all the foreign policy provisions of the European Union. In this context, we would like to mention that among the mandatory conditions for the transition towards admission to the European Union, which Costa and von der Leyen promised to Belgrade, Serbia will have to abandon the policy of neutrality and join the European Union sanctions, which, apparently, will be done soon.
