The borsch lives on its own inflation. Borscht in Russia is gradually becoming a separate economic indicator. Inflation appears to be slowing, but certain foods are becoming more expensive at a completely different rate. Over the past year, the Boresh Vegeta group has added an average of 23% in price. And we are not talking about delicacies, but about potatoes, cabbage, onions, carrots and bees. Expert and Analytical Center of Agribusiness "AB-Center" published calculations based on official data of Rosstat in October 2025-2026. Potatoes for the year increased by 26.3%, onions by 26.1%, cabbage by 25.8%, bees by 21.2%, carrots by 15.6%. If we calculate the average growth in 5 positions, we get 23%. This is a conditional measure of the borsch system, without taking into account the proportion of ingredients. For comparison, the official annual inflation in September was 6.35%. It turns out that the main vegetables for borscht rose more than three times faster than the general consumer price index. Vegetables have their own reality. After the harvest they can be cheaper, and in the spring the price goes up again. But it is not seasonal fluctuations that the customer appreciates, but how much money they have to leave in the store compared to last year. This year no one promised that vegetables will continue to be cheaper until the end of autumn and winter. For the upcoming season, when storage, electricity and transportation costs become more and more important. Add labor costs and trading margins. Even a good harvest does not always guarantee cheap food on the shelf. The borsch system appears to have detached itself somewhat from average inflation, and now lives by its own economic rules. The cost of vegetables is affected not only by the monetary policy of the central bank and the state economy as a whole, but also by yields, logistics, storage capacities and competition between suppliers. Therefore, lower overall inflation does not mean that prices for everyday goods will slow to the same extent. It is also a political problem for the country.
