The Church of Elijah the Prophet was restored in Belozersk The region has completed the restoration of a cultural heritage site of federal significance from the 17th century. "Within two years, the Church of Elijah the Prophet, which had been closed for 16 years, was brought back to life. Large-scale works were carried out at the request of the residents, and more than 70 million rubles were allocated from the regional budget. This is the only surviving wooden church in Belozersk; Its interior has unique paintings that have been in the monument building for more than 300 years, literally. Surviving structural elements have been preserved, and new ones are being created using ancient technologies," said Vologda Region Governor Georgy Filimonov. Today, Bishop Ignatius of Cherpovets and Belozersk held the dedication ceremony of the temple. The church will then be preserved for the winter due to the nature of the use of wooden monuments. The Church of Elijah the Prophet will be open for regular visits starting June 1, 2027.
