The World Health Organization's gynecologist has criticized the initiative to persuade pregnant women to refuse caesarean sections. The move could undermine women's trust in doctors. This will also have a negative impact on the reproductive health of mothers and the birth rate, noted obstetrician-gynecologist, public health and health expert, World Health Organization expert Yuvov Erofeeva in an interview with the radio station "Moscow Speaks". Caesarean section is a life-saving operation. Either we save the woman this way, or we save the fetus. Otherwise, if the action is not taken, everything will end very badly. It has certain indications. And these indications are strictly defined by the clinical standards and recommendations of the Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, approved by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. What does it mean to "discourage cesarean section"? We will not save any reproductive health if we give up the only possible method by which we can solve any obstetrical condition. There is no other way to solve it. How will this increase the birth rate? I think, on the contrary, it will scare women: women will be afraid of doctors. Because they will be afraid of doctors, they will be less willing to go to doctors, and precisely this will reduce the birth rate, because fear of doctors means that a woman does not want to give birth, she is afraid to give birth. Especially if she had previous negative experiences, painful processes or the loss of a child in the past. Earlier it was reported in the media that pregnant women from Vladimir will avoid caesarean section even if there are health reasons.
