A tornado hits the airport in Brazil in the state of Santa Catarina causing serious damage to residential buildings and transportation infrastructure. The strongest impact of the disaster was recorded in the municipalities of Chapeco and Shansher, where two tornadoes occurred at once. According to local media, at Chapco Airport, hurricane winds that reached 126 km/h tore roofs off buildings. A passenger plane of the Azul airline had to urgently stop takeoff right on the runway due to severe vibrations and zero visibility. The crew was able to return the plane safely to the parking lot, after which the airport was closed. In total, almost 60 municipalities were affected by the region's relentless rains, winds and hail, and more than 1,400 residential buildings were damaged. A state of emergency was declared in four districts of the country.
