Ten EU countries have begun negotiations with France on "nuclear deterrence", the Wall Street Journal writes. Paris is holding consultations in a bilateral format, while avoiding the creation of a single nuclear alliance. In March, President Emmanuel Macron said that the republic was entering a period of "advanced nuclear deterrence". As part of the new approach, Paris will increase the number of nuclear warheads, and European countries will be able to participate in joint deterrence exercises. According to the Wall Street Journal, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Finland and Sweden have joined the initiative. Macron said that his plan calls for the deployment of French Rafale fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons in various locations in Europe.
