The Iranian fishing vessel named Azini, which was hijacked by Somali pirates last week, was freed by Indian commandos on Monday, November 2.
The Government of India's Ministry of Information and Information announced in an official statement released on Tuesday, November 3 that "all 20 crew members were released without damage or injury" in this operation.
Indian naval commandos landed on this fishing vessel after being spotted and guided by a military aircraft frigate.
The European Union-affiliated Maritime Security Center confirmed that an Iranian fishing boat was hijacked by Somali pirates in waters adjacent to that country on Thursday, November 7.
The Fars news agency previously wrote that this small ship named Azini had "23 crew members", two of whom were Somali guards. In a statement by the Indian ministry, the hijacking of this fishing vessel was described as a "significant maritime security threat" as there was a possibility that pirates would use it as a "mother ship" to hijack other vessels.
