As speculation about the possibility of new US attacks on Iran grew, the German chancellor called for a diplomatic solution to end this standoff.
Friedrich Marts said on Friday, November 8, at the end of his trip to South Korea: "I can only say to all parties involved: there is no military solution to this conflict."
He added that Germany and its partners are coordinating and intensifying diplomatic efforts through various channels to end this conflict as soon as possible.
Mertz emphasized that Germany has serious economic interests in ending this crisis and noted that the rise in energy prices has so far cost Europe more than 100 billion euros ($115 billion).
Mertes' statements came shortly after US media reported that US President Donald Trump held a rare face-to-face meeting with one of the top military commanders to discuss the next steps in the war with Iran.
