In new cases, Jaafar Panhi was sentenced to more than five years in prison and confiscation of property. Mustafa Nili, the lawyer of Jaffer Panhi, announced that Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced the famous Iranian filmmaker to five years and one month in prison and the confiscation of all movable and immovable property. On Tuesday, November 5, Mr. Neely said in an interview with the news site that the court also sentenced his client to a ban on leaving the country for two years and a ban on leaving the country for two years on social networks. According to this lawyer, the new sentence was given in his absence and Jaafar Panhi was not even notified during the hearing of the case. He explained that after his client's bank accounts were blocked last week, they became aware of this ruling in other cases through a reference to the execution of the rulings of the Culture and Media Prosecutor's Office. Mustafa Nili added that in the case Jaafar Panahi was presented as a person outside the country, while he returned to Iran on April 10. This lawyer also said that Branch 16 of the Culture and Media Prosecutor's Office issued an arrest warrant for Panahi on May 20, while he was present that day at Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court to deal with other cases. According to Mr Neely, Jaffer Panhi now has three open court cases. Last June, the creator of this film was sentenced to one year in prison, two years of a ban on leaving the country and two years of a ban on membership in political and social groups and organizations in separate cases on the charge of "propaganda activity against the Islamic Republic system". Jaafar Panhi, who was allowed to leave Iran last year after 14 years of being banned from leaving Iran, returned to Iran on March 29 this year through the Bazargan land border after months of traveling and visiting Europe and America. During this time, he is abroad to present and promote the movie "Simple Accident". The film won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival last year.
