The growth in the world's clean energy development capacity has slowed for the first time in the last five years. The CEO of the International Renewable Energy Agency predicted that for the first time in the last five years, the new electricity generation capacity from renewable sources that will be launched this year in the world will be less than the previous year. On Tuesday, October 27, on the sidelines of a meeting in Singapore, Francesco Lacamera, director general of the International Renewable Energy Agency known as IRNA, attributed this to the inadequacy of electricity transmission networks and the existence of trade barriers. The capacity growth of solar and wind energy has accelerated every year since 2021 and after the disease epidemic caused by the corona virus. In 2025, the installed capacity of electricity generation from renewable sources reached 5149 GW with an unprecedented increase of 692 GW, equivalent to 15.5%. This amount is almost half of the total installed capacity of electricity production in the world. Despite all this, the CEO of the International Renewable Energy Agency says that the development process of this type of energy has slowed down, especially due to reaching the capacity limit in China's grid. Francesco LaCamera told the Reuters news agency on the sidelines of the "International Energy Week in Singapore": "The main reason for not setting a new record in increasing the capacity of clean energy this year is the mismatch between production capacity and the ability to distribute and transmit electricity." China, which is the world's largest producer of renewable energy, could not absorb a volume of clean energy equivalent to Mexico's annual electricity consumption in the first half of 2026 due to its power grid limitations.
