Donald Trump says the Iran ceasefire was a "waste of time" and he didn't believe in it from the start.
US President Donald Trump described the previous ceasefire with the Islamic Republic of Iran as a "waste of time" and said he was not interested in establishing it in the first place.
On the evening of Monday, November 4, Trump said at a Republican campaign rally in a city in the state of Mississippi: "We established a little truce, which I never liked very much and I thought it was a waste of time."
He added: "Of course we like to listen to experts." "We put in a short ceasefire to let some ships pass because we wanted to do a favor, but for me it was just a waste of time."
Referring to the naval blockade of Iran's ports by the US military, which was implemented on July 14, the US president said that during the past months, no Iranian ship was able to pass through this blockade except during the short period of the ceasefire. These statements refer to the ceasefire agreement between Tehran and Washington, which was reached after weeks of negotiations mediated by Pakistan and led to the signing of the 14-point memorandum known as "Islamabad" at the end of June this year.
Based on this memorandum, Iran was supposed to ensure the passage of Yemeni commercial ships through the Strait of Hormuz and the United States was supposed to lift the naval blockade on Iranian ports. Both sides also pledged to follow up the negotiations to reach a final agreement within 60 days.
