Rubio: The US has previously told the Venezuelan government that Machado should return to his country without interference.
🔸 Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said on Monday, November 4, that the US authorities informed the Venezuelan authorities several weeks ago that Maria Corina Machado, the leader of the opposition to the government of that country, should be able to return to her country without problems.
This statement comes a day after it was announced that Mrs. Machado had returned to Venezuela.
In response to a question about the timing of Machado's return, Rubio explained to reporters: "A few weeks ago we talked with the officials of the interim government."
He added that Washington explained to the Venezuelan authorities that Machado should be allowed to return to his country without any obstacles.
Rubio said: "They told us that if he wanted, he could enter the country through the airport, and we also informed his team about that."
