menace of internet cables; How does Iran want to increase the price of war?
After the ground attack on the ships and the threat to the infrastructure of Arab countries, officials in the Salami Republic are now talking about targets on the seabed, which according to their narrative can be added to Tehran's target list. The cables through which part of the internet connection of the Persian Gulf countries and even Iran itself was created.
With the possibility of a ground attack on these cables in the event of a renewed war, the fear of the conflict zone has been extended to the network that millions of people depend on for communication services and economic activity.
In recent warnings, communication cables have been placed near data centers and facilities related to artificial intelligence. Mohsen Rezaei, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, spoke about the possibility of a ground attack on these infrastructures in a new war, and Hossein Mohavi, the spokesman for the Revolutionary Guards, also announced the introduction of "new targets" referring to the cables under the Strait of Hormuz. Some analysts believe that through these threats, Tehran is trying to increase its deterrent power and raise the cost of another ground attack for America and its regional allies, but there are differences of opinion about Iran's ability to carry out such an operation, the amount of possible damage and even the countries that will suffer the most.
Since the beginning of the war on February 28, 1404, Iranian officials have tried to include in their list targets that would increase the price of the war, both for the United States and the captives of Israel, and for regional actors and even for the global economy.
In Tehran's calculations, the Arab countries' concern about the damage to their economy could be a factor in their resistance to renewing the war. Adding internet infrastructure to the list of possible targets may be an attempt to strengthen this concern; Especially in countries that have made investment in technology and digital services part of their economic plan.
