A London court announced Friday, November 1, that two Iranian nationals accused of plotting a ground attack with an improvised explosive device against the Jewish community in northern England, on the orders of a man believed to be in Iran, will be tried next year.

Rahman Salehi, 34, and Salam Ahmadian, 36, who are accused of preparing acts of assassination, appeared on Friday at the "Old Bailey" criminal court in London.

Their lawyers told the court that both intend to deny the charges brought against them.

Lyndon Harris, the prosecutor in the case, said that according to the prosecution, the police watched these two men in September, on the eve of Yom Kippur, the most important day in the Jewish calendar, while taking photographs of Jewish places in Manchester.

Harris added that according to the prosecutor's office, "these actions were designed to identify and investigate the place in order to prepare an act of assassination, that is, a ground attack on the Jewish community of Manchester." He said these two people are accused of having a connection with a third person who is believed to be in Iran.
