Vitkoff's negotiations with Putin began to discuss Ukraine's peace plan.

According to reports, Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of the United States, began his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Constantine Palace in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, October 21.

Vitkoff's meeting with Putin comes one day after his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The meeting in St. Petersburg is the ninth meeting between Vitkov and the Russian leader.

Yuri Ushkov, the Kremlin's foreign policy aide, said Jared Kushner, Trump's son-in-law, will not attend the meeting in person due to illness, and will reportedly join it virtually.

"We have clear ideas on how to achieve peace," Zelensky told reporters after the talks held in Oslo on October 20, led by Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gare Storr and Finnish President Alexander Staab. The US special envoy's trip to Russia comes after Marco Rubio, the US secretary of state, described Witkoff's talks with Zelensky as "positive".

Ukraine's president thanked Washington for renewing information about Russian attacks on Tuesday after speaking with Vitkoff in Oslo, Norway's capital.

This positive tone was raised after several days of tension between Kyiv and Washington; The tensions that intensified after Trump's agreement with Putin on the supply of diesel fuel and the request of US President Zelensky to resign, following Ukraine's refusal to stop attacks on Russian refineries.
