The Revolutionary Guards' threat against Internet cables in the Strait of Hormuz; How serious are the warnings?

On Monday, October 19, a spokesman for the Revolutionary Guards announced the possibility of presenting "new goals" in reference to the passage of seven large internet cables through the Strait of Hormuz; The statements came a day later with Qatar's warning of the consequences of internet disruptions in the countries of the region.

🔸 Hossein Mohabi said at a ceremony at the Garden Museum "Jerusalem Haganah" in Tehran: "Under the Strait of Hormuz seven large internet cables passed through which all information and the commercial internet pass through those cables."

He added: "We just want them to know that new targets will be revealed. New weapons will be revealed and the result will be that we sweep away the remnants of American power from the region. The spokesman for the Revolutionary Guards did not explicitly state that the submarine cables would be the target of a ground attack, but his reference to these infrastructures, along with the threat of introducing new targets, increased the fear of the possibility of expanding the Islamic Republic's attacks on the region's communication networks.

Submarine fiber optic cables are one of the main infrastructures of international communication, and a large part of the data exchange between countries, from everyday internet communication to financial and commercial services, is carried out through them.

On Tuesday, October 20, in response to the Islamic Republic's latest threats, Qatar's Foreign Ministry demanded an end to Iran's "irresponsible" actions and attacks.
