Amnesty International, in a new statement released on Tuesday, October 21, emphasized that the Salami Republic is using the death penalty as a tool to "increase the cost of interception... and intimidate" people.

In its statement, this human rights organization cited the execution of five protesters in January 1404 in just one week as evidence for this claim.

The judiciary of the Islamic Republic announced the execution of these five young protesters between October 8 and 13: Ali Hemati Sistani and Majed Nikandish were executed in Mashhad, Siyabash Jamshidi Khirbadi was executed in Shahkurd, and Revolutionary Guards Alireza and Alireza Raisi were hanged in Isfaya.

This is despite the fact that, as Diana Al Tahawi, Amnesty International's regional deputy, said in the highlighted statement, Alireza of the Revolutionary Guards said he was subjected to torture and abuse in prison and was denied access to a lawyer. According to Ms. Al Tahawi, such behavior has turned the legal process in Iran into a "joke" and shows that government officials do not respect the protesters' right to life.
