Agreement between Trump and Putin on Russian diesel exports; Ukraine called it a "gift to the Kremlin".

Donald Trump, President of the United States, announced that he reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, to temporarily reduce sanctions on that country's diesel exports.

🔸 This action drew sharp criticism from Ukraine, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the country's president, termed it "gifts" to the Kremlin.

Mr. Trump, attempting to curb the sharp rise in energy prices, announced on social media on Friday, October 17, based on the agreement with Putin, that Russia will immediately supply 300,000 tons of diesel to the American and global markets. Another 500,000 tons are scheduled to be released in November, followed by another one million tons.

Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social that this action will lower prices "quickly and unprecedentedly." Following the publication of this agreement, the price of diesel futures dropped by about four percent, but still remained higher by more than 110 percent than at the beginning of the current year.

The price of Brent crude oil also traded down 13%, around $104 a barrel.

This decision was announced at a time when the authorities of Ukraine, America, and European nations were negotiating in Miami to find a way to end Russia's war against Ukraine; a dialogue that ended without significant progress.

The temporary reduction of sanctions drew criticism both in Ukraine and in the US Congress. Critics argue that this action could bring more revenue to Russia and help finance the country's war against Ukraine.
