Bassent: We will likely seize $1 billion of Iran's digital currency
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bassent said the US will likely seize $1 billion in digital currency belonging to the Islamic Republic this week.
On Thursday, October 16, in an interview with Greta Van Susteren at the Newsmax policy meeting in Washington, Bassent emphasized that the Islamic Republic's "economic exclusion" campaign is effective and "goes far beyond oil exports and traditional economic sanctions."
🔸 In addition to continuing the naval blockade on Iran enforced by the US military, the US Treasury Department began tightening sanctions on Iran under the title "Operation Economic Exclusion" in early September.
🔸 As part of this plan, the United States imposed sanctions on all Iranian airlines, and subsequently, starting in early October, several countries banned the entry and exit of Iranian flights from their airports.
He added: "We will likely confiscate $1 billion of digital currency this week. We know where these assets are and we are isolating them."
"Members of the Revolutionary Guards can no longer visit their plastic surgeons in London, their girlfriends in Paris and their money in Geneva," the US Treasury Secretary said, mocking the travel of Iranian officials abroad.
He added: "If the Islamic Republic loves Iran, they are stuck there to enjoy it."
