The Tehran mayor's "zero inflation" plan has become controversial; From economic criticism to election speculation

The plan of Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, to keep the prices of basic goods stable for six months under the title "zero inflation" provoked sharp reactions among some economists and members of the city council.

Along with the economic criticisms, some political figures and the media also linked the recent actions of the Municipality of Tehran with the possibility of the reappearance of Alireza Zakhani in the presidential elections.

However, on Thursday, October 16, in response to the wave of criticism, Zakhani described his plan as a "protector against the economic war" and said that Iran is in a "total war" and efforts must be made to reduce the pressure of livelihood on the people.

Mohammad Mohajri, a journalist and fundamentalist political activist, called this plan "absurd and frivolous" and using the hashtag "Haji Arzonforosh" he demanded that the prosecutor in Tehran intervene to prevent "possible corruption". Referring to Article 156 of the Constitution and the duty of the judiciary to prevent crime, he wrote that this plan could lead to a "historic disaster" and emphasized to the prosecutor: "Prevent corruption from now on."
