The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal reported on the investigation of new ground attack options for Iran in the US government and the strengthening of this country's military presence in the Middle East.
These reports were published as Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced on Thursday, October 16, that the United States would not launch a ground attack on Iran before the midterm elections on November 3.
The "New York Times", quoting American sources, reported that the US military is preparing options for renewing a large-scale combat operation against Iran, and that the Pentagon has drawn up plans for a ground attack on the drone and missile arsenal, the energy facilities and other military centers at the behest of Mr. Trump. According to sources who spoke to this newspaper, the US president's national security team and the Pentagon have presented him with five proposals for major operations against Iran or the Houthis in Yemen in recent months, but Mr Trump has rejected these plans each time.
