Sanctions on 22 ships and six individuals linked to Iran; "We dealt a heavy blow to Iran's last remaining revenues"
🔸 The United States Department of the Treasury on Thursday, October 8, added another set of individuals, entities, and vessels to the sanctions list against Iran.
🔸 According to the US Treasury Department statement, 22 ships and oil tankers were placed on this list on suspicion of cooperating with Iran's "shadow fleet" and as part of the operation to "economically isolate" Iran.
🔸 Among these, three oil tankers and vessels sail under the flag of Honduras, three vessels under the Panama flag, three ships under the flag of the Comoros Islands, two ships under the Gambia flag, two oil tankers under the Cameroon flag, and nine ships under the flags of Hong Kong or China, Mongolia, the Bahamas, Sierra Leone, Palau, Vanuatu, Tanzania, San Marino, and Barbados.
🔸 In addition, five Indian nationals and one Turkish citizen born in Afghanistan, along with the Iran-registered company "Padideh Plastik Poshtiban" and companies registered in the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, India, the United Kingdom, the Marshall Islands, the Virgin Islands, Hong Kong, and China, were also added to the US sanctions list. Most of these companies operate in maritime management or chemical industries.
🔸 The "economic isolation" campaign or operation has been implemented with the aim of cutting off Tehran's access to foreign exchange revenues; revenues that, according to the US government, are "spent on war, missile building, cyber attacks, and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps".
