US media report on investigation of plans to attack Iran again, before or after the US elections
Two US media outlets reported that Donald Trump's administration is preparing options for renewing military strikes in Iran, and the possibility of carrying out some of these strikes before the US midterm congressional elections is also being examined.
Axios and The Atlantic reported on Wednesday, Mehr 15, citing US officials, that a final decision to launch attacks has not yet been made, but the Pentagon and the US military's Central Command, CENTCOM, have been tasked with preparing military options.
Axios says that the Pentagon instructed CENTCOM a few days ago to complete the necessary preparations for the resumption of a large-scale military operation against Iran, but this order did not set a specific date for the start of the strikes. 🔸 US sources and Israeli captives told this media that there is a possibility of carrying out an operation before the US midterm elections on November 3, November 12, and even before the elections for Israeli captives on October 27, November 5.
However, an Israeli captive official emphasized that the possibility of renewing a large-scale operation before the elections is not high, but it will increase significantly after the US midterm elections.
🔸 Axios wrote, citing its sources, that if the large-scale operation is resumed, Iran's energy facilities, infrastructure, and nuclear centers are expected to be bombed.
At the same time, The Atlantic reported, citing two US administration officials, that the White House asked the Pentagon to prepare options for potential attacks on Iran that could be carried out before the midterm elections. According to this report, one of the scenarios under consideration is to carry out limited attacks before the elections and perhaps follow it with a larger operation after the elections; however, there is disagreement within the US government regarding the timing, scope, and consequences of such an action.
