Trump: We do not think the plague in Russia is related to biological weapons

The US President says Washington currently does not believe the death of a plague lab worker in Russia is related to biological weapons.

🔸Donald Trump said on Wednesday, October 15, in response to reporters' questions at the White House about the possibility of "biological weapons" involvement: "We don't think so. We'll find out soon, but we don't think so."

He also said he plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on the matter, but did not announce a date for the call.

Mr. Trump's remarks come as the death of a 28-year-old worker at the plague institute in the Irkutsk region of Siberia and reports of a possible infection of another person have sparked concerns outside Russia. Local media in Russia reported earlier that this worker may have died due to a pulmonary plague and several people who were in contact with him were placed in quarantine.

However, Russian officials said tests did not confirm the presence of the plague agent and the cause of his death was "pneumonia of unknown origin".

At the same time, the World Health Organization demanded Moscow provide more information about this incident, saying that without sufficient information, it cannot fully assess the risk.
