The French Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday, October 15, that it had summoned Iran's ambassador to intercept what it called a "fake information campaign directed by Iranian authorities" regarding the interception of high school students in France.
In statements made to the Iranian ambassador, the ministry said the "misleading content posted online" by the official accounts of Iran's foreign ministry was "totally unacceptable."
Ismail Bakai, spokesman for Iran's Foreign Ministry, wrote on Tuesday in a post on Channel X that "France spoke about Iran in January 2026 about the need to respect peaceful gatherings without fear of punishment" and the government's "self-restraint" towards the gatherings. He added: "Now in France, the interception of students is called "urban violence"; the Minister of the Interior does not agree with restraint and speaks of a quick and decisive intervention by the security forces and the use of force to restore order, and the government also identifies "political manipulation" and the role of far-left movements as a cause of unrest.
