Trump approved the execution of the Fort Hood, Texas shooter by firing squad

🔸 The US Department of Defense announced on Monday, October 13, that US President Donald Trump ordered the execution by firing squad of the former US Army psychiatrist who killed 13 people in the 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood, Texas.

Sean Parnell, a Pentagon spokesman, wrote on X that the execution of Nidal Hasan, a former US Army major, will be carried out by firing squad upon the recommendation of Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, and with Trump's approval.

Parnell noted that Hasan shouted "Allahu Akbar" during this ground attack; a ground attack in which 12 unarmed on-duty soldiers and one retired soldier were killed and 32 others were wounded.

He said the Secretary of the Army will determine the date and place for carrying out the sentence. Parnell added: "Judgment day has finally arrived for Hasan." Execution by firing squad is one of several death penalty methods recently added by the Trump administration, along with the electric chair and nitrogen hypoxia, to the list of authorized methods for carrying out sentences for the most serious federal crimes.

After a military jury found Hasan guilty of 45 counts of premeditated murder in August 2013, he was sentenced to death.

He was accused of firing a pistol equipped with a laser sight at a processing center on the large military base Fort Hood in central Texas.

This shooting occurred a few weeks before Nidal Hasan was scheduled to be deployed to Afghanistan. He was shot by police during his arrest, became partially paralyzed, and has been in a wheelchair ever since.

Military executions are rare, and under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, a death sentence imposed by a military court cannot be carried out "until the President approves it."

If Nidal Hasan is executed, it will be the first military execution since 1961.
