Axios reported that several of the highest-ranking national security officials in Donald Trump's administration discussed the United States' next steps in the Iran war and Saudi Arabia's conflict with the Houthis in Yemen during an unannounced meeting at Camp David on Friday.
According to Axios, the meeting was led by JD Vance, Vice President of the United States, along with Marco Rubio, Secretary of State; Pete Hegseth, Secretary of Defense; Steve Witkoff, White House Envoy; John Ratcliffe, CIA Director; and General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
A U.S. official told Axios that "decisions were made or at least issues were discussed in depth" at this meeting. The White House declined to comment on the meeting.
Axios writes that this meeting is significant because the Trump administration did not announce it in advance, and the last similar meeting was held in June 2025, just days before the outbreak of the war between Israel and Iran. This report was published as negotiations with Tehran have stalled and Trump is considering resuming a large-scale military operation against Iran.
