Reports indicate that Saudi Arabia is planning a new, broader military operation against the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen; the operation's central goals include reclaiming the areas around the strategic Bab el-Mandeb strait and securing the Red Sea shipping lane.
The potential start date of the operation is not yet known, and Reuters sources indicated timelines ranging from next week to after the US midterm elections in early November.
At the same time, the humanitarian crisis in Yemen has worsened. The World Food Programme announced on Friday that in parts of the government-controlled areas, 74% of families do not have enough food.
