In the final, she defeated the representative of Uzbekistan and became the first Iranian taekwondo player to win a gold medal in the history of the Asian Games.

Iranian taekwondo athletes have participated in these competitions since the 2002 Asian Games in Busan and before that won silver and bronze medals, but never won a gold medal.

Sagar Moradi defeated opponents from Kyrgyzstan and Chintaiypa before the final.
