An explosion in a gas pipeline near Damascus, the capital of Syria, caused a massive fire and left three power plants out of the circuit.

This explosion occurred on Wednesday evening, Route 9, near the Tishreen thermal power station, about 36 kilometers southeast of Damascus.

🔸The Syrian Electricity Company announced that following this incident, three power plants from the left circuit and the reduction of electricity generation will lead to a temporary increase in blackout hours and electricity quotas.

Abdulhamid Salat, director of the communications department at the Syrian Ministry of Energy, also said that the consequences of the explosion are not limited to the electricity sector and have also affected drinking water pumping and purification stations.

This incident occurred two days after another explosion in a gas pipeline in eastern Syria, which authorities announced was caused by sabotage.

The recent explosions occur in a situation where interceptions have raised the price of fuel in Syria. Syrian authorities attribute the price rise to the consequences of the regional war with Iran.
