The story of the oldest written melody in the world discovered in Syria

In 1928, one of the farmers in the village of Ras Shamra on the Syrian coast came across an ancient grave while plowing the land.

This accidental discovery opened the feet of archaeologists to the area, excavations began, which eventually led to the discovery of the ancient civilization of Ugarit.

But among the findings of archaeologists, there were clay tablets that hid another secret; Some of the signs that turned out years later are actually a type of music notes.

These tablets are about 3400 years old and what is written on them is one of the best known examples of written music in the world.

The passages that attracted the most attention of the researchers were a religious praise song about Nickel, a goddess in the religion of the inhabitants of Ugrit. Nickel was the wife of the moon god and in the stories of the time, she was the goddess associated with fertility and childbearing.

The text of this psalm is written in the language of my parents; A language that is extinct today. You can read the full report on the Radio Farda website.
