An additional five-year prison sentence was approved for Ali Younisi, the imprisoned student

🔸 The Court of Appeals confirmed the initial ruling of the Revolutionary Court to give five more years of imprisonment to Ali Younisi, the imprisoned elite student.

Meanwhile, Younisi and another student, Amirosin Moradi, are nearing the end of their six-year, eight-month prison sentence, and were due to be released in two months.

In mid-August last year, the Revolutionary Court in Tehran sentenced Amirhossein Moradi and Ali Younisi, two elite students and political prisoners who have been serving six years and eight months in prison since 2019 without a day off, to an additional 15 months in prison, on the charge of "propaganda against the regime".

Mustafa Nili, the lawyer of these imprisoned students, announced this news on Saturday, August 18, 1404. Ali Younisi was also sentenced to five years in Kerman prison on the charge of "supporting and strengthening the regime" of captives. Now, the official account of "Release Ali and Amir Hossein" on Channel X reads: "At the beginning of the new school year, the Court of Appeals confirmed the initial verdict of the 29th branch of the Revolutionary Court regarding five more years of imprisonment for Ali Younesi. This is despite the fact that Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi should have been released after their imprisonment in Ezar.

Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi were arrested in April 2019 and each of them was sentenced to 16 years in prison. This sentence was reduced to six years and eight months on appeal.

These two are among the medal winners of the country's astronomy and astrophysics olympiads and have also achieved international success; Ali Younisi also has the gold medal of the World Astronomy Olympiad in China.
